While I make my supper I thought I’d toss out some comments about that Da Vinci Code book. I’m still amazed when I see news stories about it or hear people talking about it. For some very, very strange reason, some people don’t seem to register that it’s fiction. Read that last word again: Fiction. When people place any amount of faith in fiction as fact then that is the exact moment that fiction becomes garbage and the mind becomes a trashcan. One of the worst things we can do is lie to ourselves. Believing something without verifying it is to lie to one’s self. . .
Some people act as though the book holds countless truths. I guess that’s because the writer tried to use what he thought were facts in various spots in his story. I read the book and aside from the fact that is poorly written and poorly edited I didn’t put any false hopes in it, nor do I think the writer is even close to knowing what the real meaning of the Holy Grail really is.
I can hardly wait for the movie. Not because I’m anxious to have a fiction writer explain the Christian religion to me (I was raised Catholic), but because I want to see how people react to it, and that will probably be really interesting, and besides, I like Tom Hanks as an actor. I’ll watch the movie when it comes out as a $2 rental.
As for thinking this particular book and impending movie hold answers that mankind hasn’t been able to figure out for over 2000 years, all I can say is “Momma always said stupid is is stupid does.”
No offense intended there. Just trying to “keep it real.”
